The late art critic Robert Hughes writes “somewhere at the back of every viewer’s head an ancestor crouches in the shadows of the cave”. So it is with Lys Hansen’s epic paintings. In the back of every viewer’s head are deeply embedded ancient, modern, timeless and unchanging human experiences we all share. The exhibition is entitled “Live it. Paint it.” Lys has lived it. Lys has painted it. We see it; we feel it; and we recognise its integrity and its power”
